Briefing on policies and measures of the Hong Kong Treasury Bureau: Implement the crypto-asset declaration framework and promote the automatic exchange of tax information for cross-border crypto-asset transactions in 2028

According to Foresight News, the Financial Services Committee of the Hong Kong Legislative Council announced that it will hold a briefing on January 30. The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau of Hong Kong will brief on policy measures. Secretary Hui Ching-yu, Deputy Director Chen Haolian and others will attend. The relevant document states: In order to promote the sustainable and healthy development of the digital asset industry in Hong Kong and further consolidate Hong Kong’s status as an international financial center, legislative proposals will be submitted to the Legislative Council this year to implement relevant revisions to the crypto asset declaration framework and common reporting standards developed by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. The goal is to since Automatic exchange of tax information related to crypto asset transactions with other tax jurisdictions from 2028 to combat cross-border tax evasion and increase international tax transparency. Public comments are currently being collected on the legislative proposals.
