The restrictions set by the US government on the new Iran nuclear deal were revealed: expiration clauses must not be set

# CCTV News
A US envoy has revealed that the Trump administration demands any future nuclear deal with Iran be **permanently valid** and will **never accept sunset clauses**. The current negotiations focus on Iran’s domestic uranium enrichment and the disposal of its enriched uranium stockpiles. The US stresses it will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and prefers a diplomatic solution; Iran has stated it is willing to sign a new agreement to ensure the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and avoid war.
CCTV reporters learned on February 25 local time that US Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs Witkoff said the Trump administration requires Iran to accept that any future nuclear deal be **permanently valid** with **no expiration clauses**.
Sources familiar with the matter said Witkoff stated the US negotiating premise is **“no sunset clauses”** and Iran must abide by its obligations long-term. He added that current US-Iran talks center on whether Iran can conduct uranium enrichment domestically and how to handle existing enriched uranium stockpiles. If an agreement is reached, the US hopes to hold follow-up talks on Iran’s missile program and its support for regional proxy armed groups.
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi previously said Iran is willing to sign a **“better agreement”** to ensure its nuclear program **“remains peaceful forever”**. He said the goal of this round of talks is to avoid war.
US Vice President Vance said on the same day that Trump’s goal on Iran is **“very clear”**: to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. He emphasized the US prefers a diplomatic solution but **reserves all options**.
The 2015 Iran nuclear deal contained **sunset clauses**, under which most restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program would expire gradually over 8 to 25 years. Trump criticized this clause as a major flaw in the agreement and withdrew the US from the deal during his first term.
