## Iran confirms attacks on vessels in Strait of Hormuz, reiterates US and allies have no right of passage
On March 11 local time, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran issued a statement reaffirming its absolute jurisdiction over the Strait of Hormuz. The statement said the United States and its partners have lost the right to transit the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC stated that the vessel **Expres Room** is owned by Israel and flies the flag of Liberia. It was hit by Iranian fire and forced to stop sailing on the morning of the same day for ignoring warnings from the IRGC Navy. The container ship **Mayuree Naree** was targeted by Iranian armed forces hours earlier for insisting on illegally crossing the strait and disregarding warnings.
The statement noted that every inch of the Strait of Hormuz is under close surveillance by the IRGC Navy, with no blind spots in control.
The IRGC stressed that the United States and its allies have no right to pass through the strait.
Alireza Tangsiri, Commander of the IRGC Navy, also said on social media on the same day that any vessel wishing to transit the Strait of Hormuz must obtain permission from Iran.

## Macron says G7 should coordinate to restore free passage in Strait of Hormuz
French President Emmanuel Macron said on the 11th that amid the current tensions in the Middle East, G7 members should coordinate actions to restore the smooth navigation of the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible.
The G7 held an online summit on the economic impact of the situation in Iran on the same day. Macron, as the leader of the rotating presidency, made the remarks at the opening of the meeting.
French media quoted Macron as saying that he could not confirm that Iran had laid mines in the Strait of Hormuz, based on intelligence available to France or its partners.
Macron also mentioned that the 32 member states of the International Energy Agency (IEA) had unanimously agreed earlier in the day to release 400 million barrels of strategic petroleum reserves, and that "the G7 accounts for 70% of this volume". He also expressed hope that G7 members would call on relevant countries not to impose restrictions on oil and natural gas exports.
After the summit, Macron said G7 members agreed that the current tight global oil supply does not justify lifting sanctions against Russia.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global energy transport route, carrying about a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil shipments, as well as large volumes of liquefied natural gas and fertilizer.
The United States and Israel launched large-scale military operations against Iran on February 28, and Iran retaliated, causing a sharp rise in shipping risks in the Strait of Hormuz and forcing major oil-producing countries to cut output.
