Trump says the U.S. is not ready to end the war against Iran and is not concerned that deploying ground troops would turn Iran into "another Vietnam." Meanwhile, the Pentagon is planning to mass-produce a copy of Iran's "LUCAS" suicide drone for use in the conflict. The U.S. says the drone has performed well, has been improved, and is ready for large-scale production.
U.S. President Donald Trump said at the White House on March 17 that Washington is "not ready" to end the war against Iran.
"We are not ready to leave [the conflict] yet, but we will withdraw in the near future," Trump said.
When asked if the White House has a "post-war" plan, Trump did not provide details, only reiterating that Iran has "suffered heavy losses on all fronts" since the U.S. and Israel launched large-scale attacks on Iran on February 28.
Trump said he is not worried that sending U.S. ground troops into Iran would become America's "another Vietnam."
Some analysts say that if Washington plans to seize Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export hub, and strike an underground facility in Isfahan believed to store most of Iran's nuclear material, the U.S. or Israel may need to conduct ground operations.
## U.S. Media: Pentagon Plans to Mass-Produce Iranian Suicide Drone Copy
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal on March 17, senior U.S. defense officials said the Pentagon wants to mass-produce a copy of an Iranian suicide drone for use in the war against Iran.
The report states that the drone, named **LUCAS** (Low-cost Uncrewed Combat Attack System), is a copy of Iran's **Shahed** drone. The U.S. military deployed the LUCAS drone in the Middle East late last year, but did not disclose how many have been put into combat.
Citing U.S. Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, the report said the LUCAS drone has performed "extremely well" so far and has proven to be a useful tool in the arsenal. The U.S. has improved the drone over the past few years and "made it capable of large-scale production."
Michael said U.S. company **SpektreWorks** (Ghost Works) has already produced dozens of LUCAS drones.
The report did not disclose the production cost of the drone.
