The Republicans dare not stand on the side
**Source:** Wall Street Insights
The "brotherly bond" between Trump and Musk has completely soured, evolving from policy disagreements into personal attacks—and this has plunged the entire Republican Party into an unprecedented awkward dilemma: they find themselves unable to afford to offend either side.
According to an NBC News report on June 5, Representative Don Bacon, who represents a highly competitive district in Nebraska, bluntly stated: *"I want to stay out of the fight. There's a good line in the Bible: 'Avoid quarrels.' I'm staying out of this one."*
Republican lawmakers revealed in interviews that they fear both opposing Trump and angering Musk—and when the two attack each other, this becomes an impossible task.
Musk invested $275 million in the 2024 election, primarily to help Trump win. However, according to a Musk advisor, the $100 million originally promised to Trump's political committee is now gone.
*"The money hasn't been delivered yet—and now, it won't be delivered at all."*
What worries Republicans even more is that Musk has threatened to use massive funds against Republican lawmakers who support Trump's bills. *"He's serious. If needed, he will absolutely support Democrats,"* the advisor said.
Richard Hudson, Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said he believes the rift will "subside," but when asked whether Trump and Musk would reconcile, he simply shrugged.
**Democrats Reap the Benefits: 'This Is Christmas'**
Democrats are gloating over the Republican infighting. A Democrat stated in a text message: *"This is Christmas."*
Simon Rosenberg, a senior Democratic figure, went even further, bluntly stating that Musk's defection would severely damage Trump's legislative agenda and make him appear weak.
*"This has caused enormous damage to Donald Trump. There is no scenario where this benefits him. Nothing here works in Trump's favor. He looks weak and unable to control his allies."*
However, a Republican close to the White House tried to defend Trump, claiming the feud actually highlights his independence from Musk: *"The President is the boss. There can only be one boss."*
**From Close Allies to Public Breakup**
The fallout between Trump and Musk stems from disagreements over Trump's core agenda, the *"Big Beautiful Bill"*. The bill proposes $3.7 trillion in tax cuts and $1.3 trillion in government spending cuts over a decade, leaving a $2.4 trillion deficit.
Musk has not only publicly attacked the bill but also threatened to spend money to unseat Republican lawmakers who support it. A Musk advisor said on Thursday: *"He doesn't care at all about the Republican Party, the RNC, or House seats. He will blow them up—literally."*
By Thursday afternoon, Musk had even retweeted a post suggesting Trump's impeachment. Trump retaliated on Truth Social, claiming the easiest way to cut government spending would be to eliminate federal subsidies for Musk's business investments.
