The turmoil in Los Angeles escalates! California sues Trump administration Trump: Support the arrest of Newsom

**Source:** National Business Daily

According to CCTV News on the 10th, the California state government filed a lawsuit in court on the 9th local time, requesting the court to rule that the presidential memorandum issued by U.S. President Trump on the 7th and the U.S. Department of Defense's order to deploy California National Guard troops into the Los Angeles area based on this memorandum are illegal, and to revoke the relevant orders.

On June 9th local time, U.S. President Trump stated he would support the arrest of California Governor Gavin Newsom. Tom Homan, the White House's Border Affairs Director, said on the 7th that anyone obstructing immigration enforcement, including California Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Bass, would be arrested.

Trump also warned that protests in Los Angeles could trigger an insurrection and said he would deploy more National Guard troops in California if necessary.

### **California Sues Trump Administration**

According to CCTV News on the 10th, the California state government filed a lawsuit in court on the 9th local time, seeking to have the court declare illegal the presidential memorandum issued by Trump on the 7th and the Defense Department's order deploying California National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area.

In a statement from the California Attorney General's Office, the lawsuit names Trump and Secretary of Defense Hegseth as defendants, accusing them of exceeding federal authority and violating the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution by federalizing the California National Guard for 60 days without the governor's request.

California Attorney General Bonta called Trump's actions "an attempt to create local chaos and crisis for political purposes," adding that federalizing the National Guard in this manner constitutes an abuse of presidential power, an infringement on states' constitutional rights, and a violation of the nation's foundational principles.

The statement noted that the Trump administration's act of deploying National Guard troops without the governor's approval is "historically unprecedented," and Governor Newsom has demanded the return of command of the "illegally deployed" National Guard.

Since the morning of the 6th, federal agencies including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have launched large-scale enforcement operations targeting illegal immigrants in multiple locations across Los Angeles County, California. During these operations, law enforcement personnel were blocked by local residents, leading to repeated physical confrontations. On the 7th, Trump signed a presidential memorandum ordering the Department of Defense to deploy 2,000 National Guard personnel to the Los Angeles area without Newsom's request for support. By the 8th, 300 California National Guard personnel had been deployed, and that day, violent clashes erupted between protesters and National Guard troops outside federal law enforcement agencies in downtown Los Angeles.

Newsom has publicly opposed Trump's troop deployment decision since the 7th. Legal experts noted that this marks the first time since 1965 that a U.S. president has deployed state National Guard troops without the governor's request.

### **Trump Claims He Does Not Want a Civil War**

According to CCTV News on the 10th, Trump accused California's governor of allowing cities to be destroyed on the 9th local time, stating he would deploy additional National Guard troops to California if needed.

Trump warned that protests in Los Angeles could lead to insurrection and repeated his willingness to deploy more National Guard troops in California if necessary. He added that he does not want a civil war but claimed they "had no choice" regarding the National Guard deployment, asserting they "did the right thing."

On June 9th local time, Trump explicitly stated he would support the arrest of California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Recent protests in support of illegal immigrants in California began after Trump signed a memorandum on the 7th deploying 2,000 California National Guard personnel to the Los Angeles area, drawing criticism from Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Bass. Tom Homan, the White House's Border Affairs Director, threatened on the 7th to arrest anyone obstructing immigration enforcement, including Newsom and Bass.

In response, Newsom told Homan, "Come arrest me." When asked about Newsom's retort, Trump replied, "If I were Tom [White House Border Affairs Director], I would do it." Newsom later said on social media that the president calling for the arrest of a sitting governor was "a day I never hoped to see."

On June 9th local time, it was reported that California Attorney General Rob Bonta stated Secretary of Defense Hegseth had ignored Governor Newsom's request to revoke the National Guard deployment. Bonta revealed that Newsom sent a letter to Hegseth on the afternoon of the 8th demanding the withdrawal of "illegally deployed" troops and the transfer of command back to the state, but the request was ignored.

### **U.S. Officials: Military to Temporarily Deploy ~700 Marines**

According to CCTV News on the 10th, U.S. officials disclosed on the 9th that the U.S. military would temporarily deploy approximately 700 Marines to Los Angeles until the National Guard arrives. Trump said he would "wait and see" regarding the Marine deployment in California, adding that the situation in Southern California is "moving in the right direction."

U.S. officials emphasized that the temporarily deployed Marines in Los Angeles would only provide support and not invoke the Insurrection Act. California Governor Gavin Newsom later criticized Trump's decision to send hundreds of Marines to Los Angeles as "crazy."

On June 9th local time, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) called Los Angeles Mayor's claim that "the situation in Los Angeles is calm" a "complete lie."

DHS stated that as rioters' attacks on DHS law enforcement personnel escalate and protesters' actions on the streets become increasingly dangerous, the federal government is calling for additional support from the California National Guard to ensure the safety of all citizens, law enforcement officers, and public property.

"DHS emphasized that this is neither calm nor peaceful, and the Trump administration is working to protect American citizens from criminal illegal immigrants."

In recent days, clashes between protesters and deployed National Guard troops and police in Los Angeles, California, have continued to escalate in scale.
