Paul Chan: Hong Kong stocks have risen for two consecutive years, with a 29% increase in 2025, the best year since 2017

According to Foresight News, the Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Paul Chan Mo-po, published the Secretary's essay "Strengthening into the New Year", which mentioned that in terms of asset markets, Hong Kong stocks will rise for the second consecutive year in 2025. As of last week, the Hang Seng Index closed at 25,818 points, an increase of about 29% from the end of last year. In terms of increase, it will be the best year since 2017. In terms of asset and wealth management business, the net inflow of funds approved by the Securities and Futures Commission registered in Hong Kong in the first nine months of this year exceeded US$41 billion, which has increased by more than 1.5 times compared with the figure for the whole of last year.


2026 is the first year of the country's "15th Five-Year Plan". Hong Kong will be more proactive in aligning with the national development strategy. Finance, innovation and technology, and trade will be Hong Kong's three important development engines. Comprehensively enhance the functions and connotations of an international financial center; accelerate the construction and expansion of a world-class innovation and technology hub; enhance the functions of an international trade center.
