Bloomberg: France is expanding anti-money laundering investigation into crypto exchanges

Foresight News, according to Bloomberg, France is expanding its anti-money laundering investigation into crypto exchanges, as regulators try to determine which of the more than 100 entities registered in the country to provide cryptocurrency services will receive EU-wide licenses in the coming months. According to people familiar with the matter, France’s Prudential Regulation and Resolution Agency (ACPR) is implementing controls on dozens of exchanges. This work began at the end of last year. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the process is confidential.

Binance and Coinhouse are among the French PSANs being scrutinized by ACPR officials, people familiar with the matter said. As part of those reviews, the regulator last year asked Binance, operator of the world’s largest cryptocurrency trading platform, to strengthen risk controls, a person familiar with the matter said. “Regular on-site inspections are standard regulatory procedure for regulated entities,” Binance said in a statement. ACPR and Coinhouse declined to comment. Common requests from French regulators include hiring more staff in these sectors or improving the security of IT systems.

In France, businesses have until the end of June 2026 to obtain a license. France’s Financial Market Authority (AMF) has so far granted licenses to only a handful of institutions, including fintech firm Deblock, cryptocurrency firm GOin, French Bitcoin savings app Bitstack and CACEIS, an entity owned by France’s Credit Agricole group.
