Secretary for the Treasury of Hong Kong: Study on the applicability of existing laws on tokenized bonds is being carried out

According to Foresight News, the Secretary of the Hong Kong Treasury Bureau, Hui Ching-yu, said in his speech today at the FinTech Foresight Seminar and the 01 FinTech Excellence Award Ceremony 2025 that the Hong Kong Treasury Bureau and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority are jointly promoting research on the applicability of current laws for tokenized bonds to promote the adoption of tokenized technology in the Hong Kong bond market. Details will be announced in the first half of next year. In addition, financial regulatory agencies also regularly review and optimize the regulatory framework for digital assets. For example, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission just issued two new circulars at the beginning of this month, allowing licensed virtual asset trading platforms and their overseas affiliated virtual asset trading platforms to share global listings, allowing local investors to more effectively utilize global market liquidity, and expanding the range of products and services that virtual asset trading platforms can provide for various types of digital assets to facilitate industry development.
