Vitalik: It is expected that Ethereum will continue to expand next year, or increase gas fees for inefficient operations
According to Foresight News, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin tweeted that he expects Ethereum to shift from comprehensive expansion to targeted optimization next year to continue to improve network throughput. He proposed a possible path: while increasing the gas limit by 5 times, simultaneously increase the gas fee by 5 times for operations with higher processing costs on the chain, in order to improve the overall throughput and suppress inefficient operations from causing excessive burden on nodes.
Potential gas cost increases mentioned by Vitalik include: SSTORE for new storage slots, some SSTORE operations, precompiled contracts (Precompiles) other than elliptic curves, CALL for calling large contracts, complex arithmetic instructions (such as MODMUL), and Calldata.
